He wants freedom, but realizes overdue to his race, it is impossible at the time. This also symbolizes the dominance that the white men have. He says the white men threatened us if we looked and others if we did not (506). The black men have no choice of their own actions and fear to look at the dancer. The blindfolds are another symbol that the author uses to symbolize the struggles of blacks. The white men use blindfolds on the blacks so they can fight back as entertainment. The narrator says, Blindfolded, I could no longer turn back my motions. (508). It symbolizes the bureau the white men have agains t the blacks.
